
"VOID" is a 2D animated short film that seeks to shed light on the often-overlooked emotional turmoil experienced by children living in domestic violence households. Inspired by the heartbreaking words of a survivor who shared, "...I felt never seen as a victim..."The narrative delves into the complex psychological journey of a child navigating the destructive dynamics of a violent home environment and employs a combination of metonymy and metaphor to represent the complex psychological impact of trauma. The use of colours, distorted environments, and symbolic objects serves as a tangible representation of the child's internal world, allowing the audience to connect with their emotional state on a deeper level.

“JUST” follows the story of a girl who collects special dolls that allows her to transform into a more appealing and fashionable appearance, in short, a happier version of herself. Each day, she carefully choose a doll that matches her mood before going out. While she is enjoying her usual gentle pastel shapes surroundings, a sudden sharp and saturated shapes appears and clashes with her. Resulting in her losing one of the beloved doll among the pile of soft shapes. Despite her desperate efforts to look for it, her stylish appearance starting to fades as more sharp shapes circle her into darkness.The story explore her journey after losing the doll that gives her happiness as she find a way to compromise her true self with the society standards. The dolls here symbolise one’s willingness to conform to beauty standards, while the soft shapes portray her joy from the society approval. The sharp shapes, on the other hand, reflect her insecurities in her natural state.While "just" can be barely, almost or nearly but remember, it can also means exactly.


Palmmy is a Melbourne-based 2D animator and illustrator with a passion for visual storytelling that bridges cultural and linguistic divides. She earned her Master of Animation, Games, and Interactivity from RMIT University in 2024, building on a Bachelor’s degree in Communication Management that underpins her nuanced understanding of effective communication.Palmmy's work is rooted in the belief that animation has the power to address social issues and spark meaningful conversations. Her animated short film, VOID, exemplifies this mission, shedding light on the impact of domestic violence on children through the innovative use of visual metaphor. VOID has earned international recognition, screening at festivals such as The Strong Mind Showcase, the Multicultural Mental Health Film Festival, and the Ipswich Film Festival for Youth.
